About Tourism Rossland

Nice to Meet You!

Founded in 2007, Tourism Rossland is a non‑profit society and the official destination marketing organization for the town of Rossland, B.C. Their mission is to grow Rossland and the South Kootenays year‑round tourism economy in line with the community’s vision and values. They collaborate with local stakeholders (businesses, accommodations, resort operators) and partner with the City of Rossland, regional tourism bodies and provincial/federal agencies to manage tourism development, marketing and product support.

From promoting epic powder days and 200+ km of single‑track biking, to curating summer outdoor culture and winter adventures, Tourism Rossland ensures that Rossland’s unique “alpine‑meets‑town” vibe is communicated and supported for both visitors and locals alike.

Unspoiled. Uncrowded.

Andras Lukacs | Executive Director

Andras started working for Tourism Rossland in 2017. Previously, he lived in Yellowknife, NT, where he worked in tourism management and planning for the Government of Northwest Territories. He has an extensive background in tourism development, programming and market research. Andras earned a Ph. D. and MA. from Loyola University Chicago studying leisure networks and digital media and a BA. in communication from the University of Detroit Mercy. Originally from Hungary, Andras enjoys living an active outdoor lifestyle with his wife, two young sons and two dogs.

Melissa Thompstone | Marketing Manager

Originally from Bolton, Ontario, Melissa first discovered Rossland on a ski trip in 2016. After 20 years in Toronto—working with big brands and building extensive experience in Events, Marketing, and Project Management—she was ready for a lifestyle that aligned with her outdoors-focused roots. The appeal of true four-season adventure made Rossland the natural choice.

People-focused, creative, and endlessly curious, Melissa thrives on bringing ideas to life and shaping experiences that leave a lasting impression. At Tourism Rossland, she blends big-city expertise with a deep appreciation for small-town culture—supporting local partners and helping visitors fall in love with the place she now calls home.

When she’s not working, you’ll find her hiking with her dog, snowboarding, mountain biking, or simply exploring everything this region has to offer.

Meet the Board: From Meetings to Mountains

The Tourism Rossland Board of Directors is a dedicated group of community and industry leaders who meet monthly to steer the organization’s strategic direction. With oversight of our annual budget, quarterly progress on the strategic plan and ongoing community initiatives, they ensure that our destination marketing and development efforts align with Rossland’s values and long‑term vision. Each board member brings a unique perspective—be it hospitality, outdoor recreation, local government or tourism operations—and together they support partnerships, champion sustainable growth and guide Tourism Rossland’s efforts to keep our town vibrant and visitor‑ready year‑round.
