where every season tells a story

A Snow Day the Family Way

Winter

There is lots to do both on and off the slopes. At Red Mountain Resort, beginners can take advantage of full‑service lessons, kid‑friendly programs —making those first turns or snowboarding days easier and more fun.

Meanwhile, for those who want to try something different, the Black Jack Ski Club offers beginner lesson in nordic skiing, 2km of lit trails and a dog-friendly loop!

Off the slopes, families can enjoy tobogganing, snowshoeing, indoor climbing and public skating. Or a ski, hike or snowshoe to the cabins where you can enjoy a warm fire and games for the whole family. No matter what you choose Rossland ensures that non‑skiers or waiting siblings are equally entertained.

Adventure in Full Bloom

Spring

When Spring rolls into Rossland, it’s a perfect time for family adventure and fresh-air exploration. The lower trail network opens up for hiking and mountain biking. The Kootenay Columbia trail is an easy, short hike from your doorstep that leads to incredible views of the town and surrounding area. Or build your strength up at the indoor climbing gym!

The Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre is a great place to spend the day. Learn about the town’s rich gold-mining history, explore hands-on exhibits, and dive into stories that bring Rossland’s past to life. With interactive displays, seasonal programs, and plenty to keep curious minds engaged, it’s a fun (warm & dry) family outing any time of year.

Sun, Trails and Family Tales

Summer

There is no shortage of fun in Summer! Explore over 200km of mountain bike and hiking trails suitable for all skill levels, from beginner-friendly loops to more challenging routes, or test your skills at the new Red Mountain Bike Park. Need a more laid back activity? Enjoy a leisurely walk downtown and visit local shops, enjoy some homemade ice cream or freshly baked treats.

The historic Miners Hall comes alive with the Gold Fever Follies, a long-running, family-friendly musical comedy celebrating Rossland’s gold-rush past. Families can also take part in drop-in recreation programs, visit the local pool, play disc golf or camp and spend an afternoon at Nancy Greene Lake.

Don’t Leaf Us Yet

Fall

Fall in Rossland is a season of vibrant colours, crisp air, and endless outdoor adventure. Trails invite families and riders to double up on fun, switching between standard mountain biking and fat biking as the terrain shifts. Hikes and rides are framed by the stunning golden larch, painting the forests in brilliant yellow – best experienced on the appropriately named Larch Ridge trail. Up high in the 100 Acre Woods, early snow may dust the trails, opening the door for snowshoeing while lower trails remain perfect for biking. With fewer crowds and cooler temperatures, Fall is the ideal time to explore Rossland’s mountains at your own pace and soak in the quiet, seasonal magic.

Tails on Trails

Dog Friendly Fun

In Rossland, it’s hard to go anywhere without a wagging tail in sight—if you don’t have a dog by your side, chances are you’ll run into one eager for adventure. From hiking and biking trails to snowshoe and ski routes in the winter, most trails welcome four-legged explorers, so pups can join in on every season’s fun. Need some treats, toys or dog gear? Visit the locally owned pet store.

Whether it’s bounding through golden larches in the fall, splashing in summer streams, or romping in fresh snow, Rossland is a place where the whole family—including your furry companion can enjoy endless adventure.
