SUMMARY:January Speaker Series with Dan Grec: The Pan American Highway from Alaska to Argentina
DESCRIPTION:What a trip! Thursday\, January 29th at 6 pm\, join us at the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre as Author-Adventurer Dan Grec takes us on a journey with the tale of his cross-hemisphere adventure. \nNot happy sitting at a desk\, Dan decided to quit his job\, buy a small Jeep\, and drive 64\,000 kms solo from Alaska to Argentina on the world’s longest highway\, the Pan-American. Starting with his old tent and sleeping bag\, a cook stove\, and a few books and maps\, Dan spoke no Spanish and had only $10\,000 in the bank. He really had no idea the adventure would take two years and cover everything from roasting marshmallows on lava to summiting a 20\,000 ft. active volcano on the Equator. \nJoin Dan for an informal photo and stories night with lots of advice for your own adventure! \nEntry by donation! Treats/refreshments provided. More info/RSVP: rosslandmuseum.ca/news/2026/january-speaker

SUMMARY:Tonye Aganaba
DESCRIPTION:Tonye Aganaba is a Black African queer\, disabled and non-binary immigrant and uninvited settler living on the unceded ancestral territories of the Musqueam\, Squamish & Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. \nThey were born in London\, England – the belly of the beast and the stronghold of imperialism\, colonialism and racial capitalism\, and immigrated to so-called Canada at the age of 13. They proudly trace their ancestral line to the lands known today as Nigeria and Zimbabwe. \nTonye is an interdisciplinary artist and musician – and their style is dynamic and fluid – weaving playful threads of Soul\, Neo-Folk\, Funk\, Hip-Hop and R&B. \nTheir shows\, gatherings\, and workshops are connected and intimate experiences\, and evoke a kind of vulnerability that we all hunger for. They are a steadfast fixture in their local arts community – and a passionate and political being. \nWhen they’re not on stage or in the studio – they’re actively unlearning and re-learning as a community worker and organizer working in solidarity with oppressed peoples and in defense of the planet\, in an effort to decolonize body\, mind\, spirit and space. You can find them organizing with Defund 604 Network\, Community Accountability Project\, Ethos Lab\, and Cops Out Of Schools – four collectives based in so-called Vancouver that are dedicated to creating safe and healthy spaces for all. \nSaturday\, January 24th\, 2025 at 7:15pm\nRossland Miners Hall Lily May Room (upstairs)\n19+\nLength: 2 x 45minute sets with 15 minute intermission in between\nConcession & Bar preshow\, intermission and postshow. Licensed. \nTickets are only currently available through the 5-Show Series Pass: $115

SUMMARY:Stickybuds w/ Shmani
DESCRIPTION:Stickybuds \nThe funky depths of the Canadian West\, Tyler Martens has been touring the world and releasing exceptional music for over a decade. Renowned for his skills on both the turntables and in the studio\, Stickybuds has become one of Western Canada’s finest exports\, performing live in over 25 countries and growing. \nshmani \nshmani is an electronic producer\, DJ\, and vocalist who experiments with the borders between dubstep\, trap\, and hyperpop. Like her running mascara\, her music is bold and emotional\, paired with energetic sound design that hits with full intensity. With releases on SubCarbon Records\, FMU Records\, and music video drops like ‘GOD UR SUCH A and I’ll Be Good\, Shmani is just breaking the surface of what emo electronic music can offer\, and she has plenty more to cry about. Performing her vocals live with raw\, unapologetic passion\, Shmani has risen from underground basements to festival stages\, carving her own lane in bass music with support from respected peers\, labels and a rapidly growing online fanbase. Her forthcoming EP\, arriving in fall 2025\, sharpens her vision of emo electronic; louder\, darker\, and more unrelenting than before.

SUMMARY:Blizzard Music Fest
DESCRIPTION:Blizzard Music Fest is Rossland’s annual winter music celebration that transforms this mountain town into a vibrant live-music hub each January as part of the Rossland Winter Carnival. What started as a modest local event has grown into a three-day festival showcasing an eclectic mix of genres—from rock and folk to hip-hop\, blues\, and electronica—across multiple intimate venues and outdoor stages scattered through downtown Rossland. \nWith performances in iconic spots like the Olaus Ice Palace (an outdoor venue built of snow)\, the historic Miners’ Hall\, & The Flying Steamshovel\, Blizzard draws both local talent and touring artists\, creating a spirited soundtrack to the winter season. Beyond the music\, the festival enhances the Winter Carnival’s festive atmosphere\, filling the streets with warmth\, rhythm\, and community spirit amid the snow-covered backdrop of British Columbia’s Kootenays.
