SUMMARY:Morgan Toney Trio
DESCRIPTION:We promise this is no April Fools joke: JUNO-Nominated Mi’kmaq fiddler and singer Morgan Toney is coming to Rossland\, bringing the fiery fiddling of Cape Breton Island with the old songs of the Mi’kmaq People together with brilliance and heart. \n‘First Flight’\, Toney’s 2023 East Coast Music Award-winning debut album\, celebrates language and heritage in Toney’s transformation of traditional songs like the Ko’jua and the Mi’kmaq Honour Song alongside highly original songcraft. \nThe Mi’kmaw were likely the first people that European explorer John Cabot met in 1497 on the East Coast of what would come to be Atlantic Canada. That legacy of welcome lives on in the songs and fiddling of Cape Breton’s breakout roots artist Morgan Toney. \nWith thousands of years of tradition behind him\, Toney melds the Scottish heritage of this Nova Scotian island with Mi’kmaq songs\, stories\, and language in his own genre of music\, “Mi’kmaltic\,” meaning Mi’kmaq + Celtic. His new album\, ‘Heal the Divide’ (released on March 7th\, 2025 with Indigenous labelIshkōdé Records)\, recognizes the difficult history the L’nuk (Mi’kmaq People) and all First Nations peoples have had in Canada. It also celebrates the L’nu legacy in Canadian culture. It’s part of Toney’s larger vision to bring people together\, to set our differences aside\, and walk toward a place that Tony calls the “Promised Land.” \nMorgan Toney proudly welcomes the rest of Canada and the world to L’nu traditions as they contain many universal teachings.

SUMMARY:Circus Incognitus at The Bailey Theatre
DESCRIPTION:The Trail & District Arts Council and Rossland Council for Arts and Culture present Circus Incognitus\, a one-man circus comedy show from Jamie Adkins\, on Friday\, April 24 at 6 pm in The Bailey Theatre as part of the TECK Family Series. \nEnchanter of almost nothing\, juggler of almost everything\, Jamie Adkins performs astonishing and wacky acrobatic circus feats. Calling to mind Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton he heroically battles with everyday objects\, always on the verge of disaster. \nA story told with touching humor\, witty tomfoolery\, and no hi-tech distractions\, Adkins’ acrobatic exploits astound the audience with only sounds and gestures as he performs both on the ground and on the slack rope! Adkins transforms the trivial into the extraordinary to create a new fantastic tale in this unforgettable\, moving\, and hilarious show. \nRecognized as one of the most talented contemporary circus artists in Canada\, Jamie Adkins has performed “Circus Incognitus” over 1\,200 times across 27 countries. A renowned acrobat\, juggler\, and magnificent clown\, Jamie Adkins began his career as a street performer continuing his apprenticeship at the Pickle Family Circus in San Francisco. Now living in Quebec\, he is a former member of Cirque du Soleil and Cirque Éloize with a unique style that faithfully and humorously conveys the essence of the ordinary man. \nThis show is 60 minutes and is suitable for everyone but created for children aged 4 to 17. \nTickets are $18 and are available online at purchase.trail-arts.com\, by phone at 250-368-9669\, and in person at the Bailey Box Office at 1501 Cedar Ave.\, Trail. \nExecutive Director\, Amelia Ewart\, said “Thank you so much to the community for taking part in our Teck Family Series. We had lots of fun\, and even learned a thing or two. We’re very excited to continue this series in the autumn with our friends and partners from the Rossland Council of Arts and Culture. We hope to see you at the circus\, and again this fall!” \nThis show is made possible thanks to funding from Teck Trail Operations\, the BC Arts Council\, BC Live Performance Network\, the Government of Canada\, and Tourism South Kootenay with support from Ferraro Foods and the Prestige Mountain Resort Rossland. We also gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia.
