SUMMARY:Morgan Toney Trio
DESCRIPTION:We promise this is no April Fools joke: JUNO-Nominated Mi’kmaq fiddler and singer Morgan Toney is coming to Rossland\, bringing the fiery fiddling of Cape Breton Island with the old songs of the Mi’kmaq People together with brilliance and heart. \n‘First Flight’\, Toney’s 2023 East Coast Music Award-winning debut album\, celebrates language and heritage in Toney’s transformation of traditional songs like the Ko’jua and the Mi’kmaq Honour Song alongside highly original songcraft. \nThe Mi’kmaw were likely the first people that European explorer John Cabot met in 1497 on the East Coast of what would come to be Atlantic Canada. That legacy of welcome lives on in the songs and fiddling of Cape Breton’s breakout roots artist Morgan Toney. \nWith thousands of years of tradition behind him\, Toney melds the Scottish heritage of this Nova Scotian island with Mi’kmaq songs\, stories\, and language in his own genre of music\, “Mi’kmaltic\,” meaning Mi’kmaq + Celtic. His new album\, ‘Heal the Divide’ (released on March 7th\, 2025 with Indigenous labelIshkōdé Records)\, recognizes the difficult history the L’nuk (Mi’kmaq People) and all First Nations peoples have had in Canada. It also celebrates the L’nu legacy in Canadian culture. It’s part of Toney’s larger vision to bring people together\, to set our differences aside\, and walk toward a place that Tony calls the “Promised Land.” \nMorgan Toney proudly welcomes the rest of Canada and the world to L’nu traditions as they contain many universal teachings.

SUMMARY:March Speaker Series with Terry LePage: The Klister Klub
DESCRIPTION:We’re sure you’ve heard about the Klister Klub! A group of skiers from the Trail Ski Club built a cabin in 1939 that would become a hub of ski touring and adventuring for decades. The cabin was built from wood logged on site — all other supplies had to be hiked up to Cabin Flats in the basin between Granite and Grey Mountains. Many of those same skiers went on to be key players in planning and building the area’s first chair lift and establishing the Red Mountain Ski Club in 1947. Prior to the construction of the Granite Chair\, the Klister Klub cabin was only accessible by hiking or ski touring\, yet it continued to be a popular place for members — especially on full moon nights. Klister Klub members continued to maintain and repair the main cabin through the 1970s and 80s\, through to present day. \nCome out to the Museum at 6 pm on Thursday\, March 26th\, to hear long-time Klister Klub member Terry LePage confirm some of the lore of this long-standing Rossland institution and the members who contributed so much to the Red Mountain ski area. \nEntry by Donation. Treats/refreshments provided. \nMore info/RSVP at rosslandmuseum.ca/news/2026/march-speaker
