Dec 30th
Tue, 2008/12/30 - 1:58pm — deanneHad a nice little ski this morning...... Getting good coverage now and the snow is beautiful. It was pretty busy at the hill (by Kootenay standards). Also had a great night on Sunday with Le Petit Fromage. That is a fun night out- especially as no one in our house can cross country ski well!
Ana- our Katimavik Student
Fri, 2008/12/12 - 2:36pm — deanneHi, my name is Ana I’m volunteering with the Rossland Chamber of Commerce with a program call Katimavik. It’s basically for young peoples who want traveling in Canada. With this amazing program I’m here in Rossland, BC.
Rossland is the most beautiful city, everyone smiles and enjoys their life here. When I first came here I fell in love … the old buildings, the places for shopping, wonderful coffee shops, the museum, and incredible mountains for skiing, biking and more.
Let’s start with: Adventure
Welcome to winter wonderland: with an average annual snowfall in town of 370cm (148in) and with an average of 750cm (300 in) at Red Mountain Resort. With rails, boxes, tabletop jumps, rocking sound system, downhill, skiing, skating, snowshoeing, cross country skiing this mountain is for sure the most extravagant attraction in Rossland. At Red they have something for everyone. At Red Mountain skiing is life.
Dec 12- Snow- Finally
Fri, 2008/12/12 - 2:20pm — deanneOK- it is really coming down today- finally! I have read varying reports from 30inches (yes inches not cms!) to 10-15 cms. I can barely see the library across the street because of all of the snow coming down!! Can't wait to see how much accumulates. Grand Opening of the new improved Steam Shovel with a stage and dance floor is next Thursday Nobember 18th. It will be great to have a live music venue where we can kick up our heels.
Got some new ski pants and ordered some new boots- after I ordered them I realised they are just the new version of my old ones- oh well.
Also borrowed a set of 67cm skiis for my littlest monster. She is very keen.
Hooray Snow!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nov 6- Snow-I love winter!
Thu, 2008/11/06 - 3:45pm — deanneOK- so it started today. Winter is defintely here and I am getting really excited for skiing. Time to put my bike away. While I really enjoy riding my bike and get a huge rush from it- I get total euphoria from skiing! I can't wait to get it started. This town is absolutely magical when it snows. My attitude may also have something to do with the fact that I don't have to shovel any snow- I decided years ago that was something my husband was best suited for.
I am also excited that Red did so much work on glading this past summer and am looking forward to checking out the results. Maybe this year is the year that I won't get lost in powderfields and find the perfect line!!!
Aug 1- Bike Park
Fri, 2008/08/01 - 8:25am — deanneI haven't blogged for a while probably because there are so many things to do in the summer. Anyways- just bought a new bike- and am really stoked! It is the right size and weight and a perfect fit. It is making a huge difference too. Went to the bike park last night and managed to go over my first see-saw. Almost didn't make it- but managed to not bite it. Also went over the high bridge and the big rollers (really fun!). Chickened out on the smallest jump- but figure I can do it next time. I am also doing the Betty Go Hard class on Tuesday nights- really fun. Great to bike with a bunch of girls of a similar caliber- and really supportive.
May 20- Green!
Tue, 2008/05/20 - 10:25am — deanneI went away for the long weekend and when I returned to Rossland- everything has turned green. It is way too gorgeous! Bright lovely grass and trees. Even a few flowers. Spring is here and summer won't be far behind. Going for a ride on Thursday with Betty Go Hard and looking forward to it.
May 2- Spring is here and my bike is out!
Fri, 2008/05/02 - 9:22am — deanneHad a fabulous ride yesterday with the Betty Go Hard Group -such a nice ride. There were about 15 girls/ladies all of about the same ability level and the ride was led by Cindy Devine . I have to say I was a bit intimidated at first as everyone looked quite fit- and I had a few beer this winter......... Anyways we had a fabulous road ride- out by the Waneta Dam. What a gorgeous place for a ride. Everyone was very supportive and we had a really nice time. Saw a mommy bear and her babies- which were tiny- about as big as cats.Apparently next week (this is a part of a 4 week series) we are heading up a massive hill- I will let you know how that goes! After the ride Tash had organised girly fruit punch with a bit of a kick as well as some fabulous appies. I felt like I really deserved them! I would highly recommend these group rides- well organised and great fun!
April 11- Enough Snow already!
Fri, 2008/04/11 - 8:18am — deanneYes- I know this may sound like blasphemy- but I have had enough snow for one season. Great that the ski hill is open for 1 last weekend- but I am ready to get my bike out and play some golf. The Rossland Trail Golf Course has opened already and I am keen to hit some balls.
Today is looking promising as we have sunshine and no sign of any more snow!
March 15- Big snow day
Sun, 2008/03/16 - 12:51pm — deanneYesterday in my wisdom (not at all) I decided my husband could ski in the morning while I watched the kids- he came back grinning from ear to ear as there was so much snow. So then I made another bad decision- taking the 3 year old to the top of the mountain. Well when your legs are a foot long and the powder is a foot deep- it makes it tough going. She made it- but didn't speak to me till I got her a hot chocolate. All is well now.
Skiing is still great.
