The 3rd Annual Blizzard Mountain Music Festival has invited some of Canada’s best live acts to come perform during Rossland’s famous Winter Carnival.  Local rock band and Blizzard organizers The Tuques have hand picked over twelve acts to help cool down the alpine city over three days of winter carnival festivities and musical freeze. The Blizzard’s mandate is to promote original Canadian music ranging in styles and instrumentation while providing the audience with an authentic live concert setting. Two stages and multiple acts each night complemented by professional sound and lights provided by one of BC‘s top production company, Hairy Productions. New for 2008! In order to accomodate the local population’s profond desire to rock, The Blizzard and Red Resort proudly present an additional evening of live performances Friday, January 25th, 2008 at 8:00 PM  “Rockin’ Out At Red” will feature some of last years favorite performers, Nelson’s Arthur Funkarelli and Rossland’s The Tuques.

The Rossland Art Club is hosting an Art Show and Tea at the Seniors Centre. Old favorites include having photos taken with Santa by Larry Doell, a coloring contest, a story time for kids and one for adults too. The popular Reindeer Prance Parade with Santa leading the way is not to be missed. Have some Christmas cheer, sing some carols, and buy your Christmas tree from the Red Mountain Racers. Don't forget your shopping lists and enjoy the hospitality and high quality shopping of the many unique boutique downtown shops.

Nov 19-23, 2008

"The Biggest Little Film Fest in Canada" AKA: The Rossland Mountain Film Festival is a four-day event that takes place in Canada's Alpine City - Rossland BC. The focus of the event is on local talent. Filmmakers, artists and new media workers showcase their creations to a Kootenay regional audience.

Our submissions have progressed in an interesting fashion over the past few years. Many local filmmakers who started out filming themselves and their buddies on the slopes of the local ski hill have now expanded their work and skill to include other independent films, not necessarily of the extreme sport genre. This shows the progressive talent of these composers and we here at the RMFF Society are dedicated to providing a larger platform for these artists to use in potentially launching their careers.

While we will still have several extreme sport entries this year, we will also be including a wide range of independent films - still very much reflective of the ecclectic mountain culture that is found in Rossland and other mountain communities.

Last year's Festival showed over 30 hours of film from extreme sport to documentary and was attended by approximately 1100 people. Other than films, the Festival audience was exposed to local paintings, slide shows, music, outdoor tourism companies and to the community of Rossland itself - a vibrant and active mountain town.

Rossland Winter Carnival

Rossland, BC

Jan 30, 31st and Feb 1st, 2009- 112th Annual Rossland Winter Carnival
Sure To Be Full of Spectacular Family Fun!!!

Olaus Jeldness would be amazed. He was the Norwegian miner who, way back in 1897, initiated Canada’s Oldest Winter Carnival by inviting his friends to the top of Red Mountain for a now infamous “Tea Party”. Afterwards, he sent his guests barreling down the hill with long wooden sticks strapped to their feet which he called “skis”. And, that is how the sport got its start in Canada.

Now it’s almost the year 2008 and on January 25th - 27th, Olaus would be astounded to see boarders flying through the air carving graceful lines right beside the very same post office that he knew during Saturday’s fantastic Rail Jam. Following that, watch out for some Big Air, Fireworks and Torchlights at Red Resort’s Family Fun Night.

Old traditions continue with Friday’s parade that gives participants a chance to win a seasons ski pass while listening to live music downtown at the Carnival Extravaganza. The big Variety Show follows that with wonderful family entertainment.
